Powerlifting paralympics - Electricity use
Powerlifting paralympics is a fascinating and highly competitive sport in the Paralympics. Here are some key points:
Event Format: The only discipline in Powerlifting paralympics is the bench press. Athletes lie flat on a specially designed bench and aim to lower a weighted bar to their chest and then press it back up.
Competition Rules: Each athlete has three attempts to lift the heaviest weight possible. A fourth attempt can be made for a record, but it doesn’t count towards the final result.
Weight Categories: There are 10 different weight categories for both men and women, ranging from up to 41kg to over 86kg for women, and up to 49kg to over 107kg for men for Powerlifting paralympics.
Recent Highlights: At the 2024 Paralympics in Paris, Nigerian powerlifter Folashade Oluwafemiayo broke a record and won gold in the women’s over 86kg category for Powerlifting paralympics.

The electricity usage for the Olympics is substantial, but recent efforts have focused on sustainability and efficiency. Here are some key points:
Renewable Energy: The Paris 2024 Olympics will use 100% renewable electricity, sourced from wind and solar power generated in France1. This approach aims to limit the use of generators and reduce the carbon footprint.
Energy Efficiency: The facilities for Paris 2024 will be more energy-efficient, with LED lighting systems that consume 80% less energy compared to standard lighting1. The Aquatics Centre, for example, will have a solar panel roof covering around 20% of its electricity needs2.
Past Examples: The Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics used approximately 160 GWh of green electricity, primarily from wind and solar sources3. Similarly, Tokyo 2020 operated entirely on renewable energy4.
These initiatives are part of a broader commitment to make the Olympics more sustainable and environmentally friendly.
