A Meter Operator Contract (MOP) is a legal requirement for businesses with half-hourly (00 Profile) electricity meters. Here’s a brief overview:

Role of a Meter Operator: The MOP is responsible for installing, maintaining, and upgrading electricity meters. They ensure that the meters are functioning correctly and that consumption data is accurately recorded and transmitted to your energy supplier

Mandatory Requirement: If you have a half-hourly meter, you must have a valid MOP contract. If you don’t choose one, your electricity supplier will appoint one on your behalf, which might not be the most cost-effective option

Contract Duration: MOP contracts typically last for 5 years and are a separate cost from your electricity supply.

Cost: The cost of a MOP contract can range per annum, depending on the type of supply, Companies usage, Companies Credit Score, Access and Egress to the site, and Site location.

Data Collection and Aggregation (DC/DA): This is often combined with the MOP contract and covers the collection and transmission of consumption data

Charges Explained

New Customer Requesting Meter Operator Contract (MOP) Quotes, Renewals, Contract Issues, etc., – £30 charge
 
Charges are applied by Energy4 when assistance is made to install or remove meters for both Electricity and Gas.
 
These charges are due to the commercial complexities, time to collect information, agreements with Networks, Installers, Civil Engineering companies, and Suppliers, a financial charge is required.
 
This financial charge can be up to and exceed £200 as upfront in advance payment to Energy4 is required. Once received, negotiation with the network begins.
 
If you decide to go with Energy4 for your utility contract or contracts once the Meter or Meters are installed, and commissioned, and discount will be applied to the contract at a discretionary level.
 
Citizens Advice Bureau advice has been taken to clarify this. New Customer will be made aware of the above from the 5th of December 2020 when Meter installation is discussed.
